Farmers and Makers
This adventure began in a flurry of grief and unknowing. We moved to this little farm where my Aunt and Uncle had spent their last 20-odd years. Losing them both within a year was devastating, and adapting to rural life at the same time added to the ungrounded feeling. I’d spent countless, sunny weekends here throughout my childhood, but now we felt lost. How does septic work? How do the animals get water in the winter? How do you use a generator? How do you fix a fence?
Coming from urban backgrounds, it seemed there were always more questions than answers, but incredible neighbours, friends, and family helped us find our feet.
By January, 2023, we brought home our first chickens (not an ideal time, for anyone wondering). By February, a milk cow. By March, we had two bottle calves and were starting seeds indoors, which grew way too quickly and died before spring came.
The fact of the matter is that we’re learning, always. Every day. And through that learning, we’re building a beautiful life full of birth, growth, creation, and community, and in all ways, we hope to share that with you.
